01 National Defense Lecture Hall: Empowering Top Think Tanks

Prior to the opening ceremony, the "National Defense Science and Technology Lecture Hall" commenced. Major General Liu Jinyu, professor at the National Defense University, Peng Yanping, expert from the Strategic Group of the Science and Technology Committee of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and Wu Mingxi, chief scientist of China North Industries Group Corporation Limited, shared their insights on the topics of "New Productivity, Forming Combat Capability," "Scientific and Technological Innovation and the Development of New Equipment," and "Trends and Implications of Intelligent Warfare," respectively, injecting cutting-edge intellectual energy into the students.

02 The opening ceremony was attended by a host of luminaries.

The opening ceremony commenced with the national anthem. Zhou Liming, Vice President of Zhengzhou University of Light Industry, Wu Zhilin, Party Secretary of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Nanjing University of Science and Technology, and Ren Haitao, Vice President of Henan Mine Crane, delivered speeches, emphasizing the significance of the competition for talent cultivation and industry-academia-research cooperation. Representatives of the judging experts and participating contestants took an oath, and Zhang Gang, Vice Chairman of the Henan Provincial Ordnance Society, explained the competition rules.

03 Competition: Hardcore Creative Clash

The competition received 88 entries, and after online judging, 54 entries advanced to the offline competition. Undergraduate students (divided into 4 groups, totaling 42 entries) and graduate students (divided into 2 groups, totaling 12 entries) competed in designated classrooms, following a "presentation + Q&A" process. In the "final showdown," the 12 advancing entries competed in the ultimate showdown, with the contestants demonstrating their solid professional skills and innovative ideas.

04 Closing Ceremony: A Glorious Coronation

At the closing ceremony, Zhang Baozhu, Deputy Secretary-General of the Henan Provincial Higher Education Association, and An Yude, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Ordnance Society, delivered speeches. The final list of winners was announced: 2 first-prize winners, 5 second-prize winners, and 5 third-prize winners in the postgraduate group; 6 first-prize winners, 14 second-prize winners, and 22 third-prize winners in the undergraduate and associate degree group; 8 Outstanding Instructor Awards and 4 Outstanding Organization Awards were also presented.

05 Event Background

The Special Equipment Innovation Design Competition is a major national extracurricular competition for science and engineering majors, jointly organized by the China Ordnance Society, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, and the Teaching Steering Committee for Ordnance-related Majors of the Ministry of Education. It is co-sponsored by the China Ordnance Society and Nanjing University of Science and Technology, with a national competition held every two years. Nanjing University of Science and Technology hosts the competition and determines awards at various levels for graduate and undergraduate/associate degree groups. Since 2024, the competition has piloted a provincial selection competition in Henan Province, held annually, along with a school selection competition. Participating universities or research institutes organize their own reviews to determine the list of works and teams recommended for the finals, forming a three-tiered competition system: "university recommendation - provincial selection - national competition participation."

This high-level provincial-level science and technology innovation competition has inspired young people's innovative awareness in special equipment, honed their core engineering skills, and built a bridge for universities to serve national strategies.
